Quirky independent burger chain sells £8k of DIY kits within 10 minutes of launch

It took just 10 minutes for popular independent burger restaurant, Fat Hippo, to sell-out their new DIY at-home burger kits and generate £8,000 of revenue after launching on social media.

The ‘Fat Hippo at Home DIY Burger Kits’ are sold through Fat Hippo’s Toggle-powered store and are on sale every Friday at midday. The kits are for two or four people and come with everything for customers to recreate Fat Hippo’s signature burgers from their own gaffs whilst the restaurant doors are closed.

Customers can choose from the namesake burger: flank and forequarter blend beef burger with American cheese, smoked bacon rashers, chorizo and Fat Hippo sauce, and the Oprah Sin-free vegan burger: signature vegan patties with vegan brioche buns, a sprinkle of magic dust, vegan cheese, cajun Facon bits and Fat Hippo sauce. Hillbilly Lager or Proper IPA can also easily be added to orders. With limited numbers, the kits sell out quickly.

Abbie Gilbertson, Marketing Manager, said: “Getting our DIY kits online has been our focus for the past few months so it has been great to see these launch so successfully. The popularly of the kits have entirely exceeded our expectations. The Toggle team (especially Anna) has been promptly on hand to help with all issues, working alongside us and taking some amendments on board for the future.”

Fat Hippo is an independent burger restaurant specialising in the best burgers, loaded fries and more. The team launched with Toggle last December ahead of the Christmas rush to sell gift cards and encourage their customers to give the gift of burgers, whilst securing dine-in footfall when the doors reopen.

Abbie added: “Prior to joining Toggle, our gift cards did not sync with our till systems. Toggle has helped us to achieve a seamless customer journey.”

Born in 2010 with roots in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Fat Hippo is renowned for the best burgers in the North. Recognised for their quality ingredients and quirky flavours, the business is all about ‘good old fashioned, roll up your sleeves and get it all over your face’ food.
