Give the bigger basket a reason to exist
Picture a guest with two Gift Cards in their basket: one for Mum and one for their best mate. Then they spot that adding one more card gets them lower postage. Suddenly, the neighbor who feeds the cat is getting a very nice dinner this year under the Christmas tree.
That's lesson three of our winter postage series. In lesson two, you stopped charging guests more for buying more. Now it's time to reward them for it.
One more card, please
Choose a spend level just above what your guests usually buy, then lower your postage for anyone who reaches it. So if your standard postage is £3.95, you might drop it to just £1 on orders over £50. That means a guest with a £30 Gift Card in their basket is only one card away from a better deal, and adding it feels like a smart move. Because it is.
Small postage, big payoff
Here’s the fun bit. Every extra card in that basket is worth far more to you than the postage you’ve knocked off:
- It’s money in the bank now. A bigger basket means more revenue taken in the run-up to Christmas, before a single guest has sat down.
- It’s more guests through the door. One more card is one more person walking into your venue, and they’ll often be doing it in January and February, just when you’d love a few extra covers.
- It’s more spend when they arrive. Guests rarely stop at the balance on their card. They add a starter, another round, dessert, and that’s extra revenue on top of what’s already been paid.
- It’s new faces. The person unwrapping that extra card may never have visited you before. Now they’ve got a reason to, and it’s a first visit you didn’t have to pay to win.
- It gives you something lovely to shout about. “Low postage on orders over £50” is a friendly, useful message for your webshop, emails and social, right when guests are working through their gift lists.

Five clicks to a bigger basket
- Log in to Toggle and go to Settings, then Postage Settings.
- Expand your product category and click the edit icon on the option you want to change.
- Set Follow Toggle base rate? to No.
- Under Charges to your guests, set your reduced rate for orders above your threshold.
- Set Postage option live? to Yes, then Save.
Set your threshold just above your average order value, so most guests are only one card away. How much you knock off is up to you, whether that's a lower rate or free postage. Then tell everyone. A threshold nobody knows about is a lovely secret, and secrets don't sell Gift Cards.
A pound off, a lot to gain
A small saving for your guest turns into a bigger basket, more visits, more spend and new faces at your tables. That's a very good trade for a pound or two of postage.
